Too Busy to Paint!

Sometimes there does seem little time to  paint in between shows. I did complete some new paintings however for the upcoming North Toronto Group of Artists Fall Show (see below). This painting has made more use of the application of texture than I usually do. What do you think?

The show continues  on Friday, November 13, from 12:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday, November 14, from 10:00am to 3:30 pm.

An Exciting Art Event

You are warmly invited to visit the studios and homes of 18 North Toronto artists to view their latest work on display. The North Toronto Group of Artists represents local artists in various forms of visual fine arts, and reside in the North Toronto area from Wilson to Eglinton and from Avenue Rd to Mount Pleasant.

Art on a Canadian Theme

As a promotional activity for the Fall Art Show and Sale of the North Toronto Group of Artists, an art exhibition titled Parallel Lines is on display at a Starbucks location for until the end of October. The address is 3250 Yonge St. at the corner of Brookdale Ave.
"Parallel lines" refers to the fact that all paintings are on canvas that is "30" x "10" and hung vertically. This is the third year of this exhibit and each year a different theme is chosen. It is fascinating to see 20 different intrepretations. This year the theme is "Canadian" - lots of fun and possibilities there. Here is my interpretation:

Blogging from Black to White and Blue

If you tuned in today, you are probably wondering about the "older" posts that are featured. I decided to change the background of the blog, as the white text in most cases was not showing up on the emails of subscribers. After hours of fiddling, I changed the template but then had to go back through all posts to change some of the text colour. As a result, the order of the posts has changed. They can still be reached however in the correct month in the "archive". I think that this is how we procrastinate instead of just painting !! I hope you find the new template fresher and easier to read.

A successful art sale and exhibition of paintings by the North Toronto Group of Artists has just finished at Blessed Sacrament at Yonge and Lawrence with an attendance of approximately 900 guests. The Yonge/Lawrence Art Walk which preceded the exhibition, featured art works in the windows and interiors of local businesses. Since I was assigned the window of "Cruise Holidays", I felt that travel paintings were in order and the staff were very helpful in arranging the window space. The photo below, although not the most clear and with reflections of Yonge St. activity, gives some idea of the window.

It's All About Me

"Life is a great big canvas and you should throw all the paint you can on it " says Danny Kaye, and I am certainly trying to do that!

North York Visual Artists Art Tour and Sale September 25 & 26
Mitchell Field Community Centre

(Mitchell Field Community Centre is located on Church Street, just East of Yonge and South of Finch)
I will be showing in the community centre with seven other artists. Other artists in our organization are in their home studios. More details and a map can be found in the brochure on the North York Visual Artists Website http://www.nyva.ca/

Note: The tour is held for two weekends. The brochure indicates which artists are only exhibiting on the first weekend, which includes me.

Yonge Lawrence ARTWALK October 15 to November 4

The Yonge Lawrence Village BIA presents the 6th annual Artwalk. Local businesses will host the works of local artists in mediums ranging from watercolours to photography. Artists’ works will be displayed in local merchants’ windows and establishments along Yonge Street between Lawrence Avenue and Yonge Boulevard.City Councillors will walk the Village and judge the windows for best overall creative impression and flair and determine the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners.
